How To Rank For Your Keywords

I just got a hosted Wordpress blog going, and thought I would try a little experiment.

I decided to see just how long it would take me to get on page one of Google for a set of keywords. Now if I picked "make money online" or "Internet marketing" my little experiment could take a very long time, and page one may have been impossible to achieve.

I owned the domain name www.CashBlog-n.com and used it for my blog.

So I decided to choose "cash blog" as my keywords which are searched for about 6,000 times a month according to Google's Keyword Tool and have over 96,000 competing web pages on Google.

Next I optimizing my blog for the keywords "cash blog"(although I'm no expert) and got some backlinks using "cash blog" for the anchor text. I have 142 backlinks total according to a few of the free backlink checkers available online. Now most of these backlinks would be considered fairly crappy, with probably 10 or so good quality links.

10 days is what it took, that's right 10 days, I was surprised, I thought it would take longer. Look at cash blog and there I am number 5 on the page! I guess I'd have to call this a successful experiment.

Of course the experiment will continue, I have to see if and when I get to number 1 on the page. So I'll get a few more links like this cash blog link, there's my anchor text, and get to number 1!

Or I'll just add an UPDATE to this page--oh that's right This is my update! Well it's about one month later and if you click on the cash blog link above you'll see I am now indeed number one in good ole Goog. So now I'll go for some keywords with a few more searches, namely, "how to earn cash online" see how they link to my website. A link to my blog using my anchor text from my hub which looks to be a PR1- it's a good thing!

Update: 9/26/09 Well a lot of water has flowed under the bridge (in my experience with making money online.) I've realized that ranking for "cash blog" is pretty much a waste of time (money wise anyway;o) I was told back when I put this hub out that perhaps most of the people who search for the term "cash blog" were people who were looking to see where their own "cash blog" site ranked for those words, and I think she was right!

I've now decided to go after "work from home and earn extra money online with a cash blog". You'll see I changed the title of my blog accordingly.

It'll be a while before I rank for my new terms, but the rewards of search engine traffic will be worth it! I've started more blogs and am adding more online "real estate" to my holdings weekly.

The more good quality content you can get online (blogs, hubpages, articles, comments on related blogs and forums, etc.) the better. You should always link to your best content (money making content (if that is what interests you) with the proper anchor text as you can.

I'm starting to get a good grasp of just how to go about keyword research and what you have to do to succeed online, and I like to share what I know with anyone who needs to know, so check back often as I'm going to get geared up (and will start having the time) to write lots of helpful hubs soon! I want to be the online equivalent of a land baron ;o). Own lots and lots of money making online real estate!
