Marijuana should be legal, Addictive-Give me a break!

I've read several of the "marijuana should be illegal" hubs, and I just had to join and put in my two cents.

I don't smoke pot (at least right now) but have in the past, and I really think the world would be a better place if it were legal! It's ability to aleviate pain, without side effects is second to none. There are alot of people who have to take strong, very addictive pain killers, and suffer from the side effects, marijuana is the answer.

Although I'm not advocating using cannabis and driving, I would much rather be out on the highway with a bunch of pot heads then a bunch of drunks. Your motor skills just aren't as impaired while high on marijuana. Again I'm don't advocate "partaking of the herb" and driving I'm just saying legalisation would not make our streets any more dangerous (in my opinion).

Addicted to marijuana-give me a break! I just don't see it. In all my years on this planet I've been arount alot of people who smoke cannabis (I grew up in the 60's and 70's), some on a daily basis and I've never had anyone tell me how they had much difficulty stopping. Marijuana is probably somewhat habit forming, but so is eating pop corn every night (like I do)lol. I try to stop but find myself putting that bag in the micro-wave anyway:o). I personally have stopped on many occasions (pot that is, I just can't break that pop-corn habit though), and believe me giving up other habits is much harder (cigarettes and coffee come to mind). People need to take responsibility for their own actions when they cross the line and get in trouble with the law rather then the usual-I did it because I was high on pot, again-give me a break!

Now I must add here, the act of actually smoking the marijuana IS bad for you! Inhaling smoke into your lungs can cause a host of health problems. If pot were legal I would hope they could come up with an pill or some way of administering it without having to smoke it.

Ok well I feel better now, and I'm ready for the flood of comments disagreeing with me, so bring them on. But remember this is only my two cents worth!

Your are wrong about the addiction. I have been smoking for 30 years on and off. The longer you smoke the harder it is to give up. My husband can stop and not have any problems at all. I on the other hand cannot sleep, get headaches, the shakes, dizziness, irritablitly, frustration, very angry, crazy thoughts and severe mood swings. I am working on my third day of not smoking and yes the symptons are getting better but the craving is still there in fact it is getting stronger. Many "experts" say marijauna is not physically addictive just psycologically addictive, I say addiction is addiction regardless if it is physical or psycological. I am an addict but I am also strong willed and smart and will try to beat it. I am tired of reading about how it is all in your mind, after years of heavy use it has damaged my mind and that makes it physical, get it?

Hi Jewel,

Yeah I get it, and yeah you're right addiction is addiction! The mind can be a very powerful and controlling force in our lives. I Googled "herbs to help marijuana addiction" and found that there are some that may help. I have a website I'm just getting going with called http://www.enaturesremedies.com It covers herbal, supplemental, home remedies for illness and disease, and I'll do some articles on addictions and the vitamins, herbs, and suppements that are helpful helping kick a drug habit.

Anyway Jewel just hang in there and the cravings will lessen and you'll kick this addiction, I know you will!

A pill, no thanks. what would be the fun in that? I enjoyed passing the joint with buddies and who can forget shotguns? No, you live only once and there are things in life one needs to experience, but not some of what they experience today of course. I'm certainly glad I am not young today, I'd be dangerous probably. I'll stick wi' me Scotch. Nice hub CC

A pill, although maybe not as much fun, would give the benefit without having to smoke it which some people just aren't going to do. Ahh yes, shotguns, haven't had one of those for a long time. My favorite was when there was a good looking babe doing the shotgunning.

FINALLY! All the websites say Marijuana is horrible for you and is crazy addictive and that is all false. Why do you think they have Medical Marijuana? Because, in a way, it is good for you. No one has ever died from smoking it. Correct me if i'm wrong, i have read that it does not damage your brain. Also, it limits pain (obviously). Scientists have experimented and tried to prove that it is harmful but all have failed, but yet they have found benefits. I mean i can go on and on but yeah. It is way better then Tobacco and of course heroin, crack, meth ect. Marijuana MAY have a mental addiction (your mind wants it) but not a physical addiction (Withdraws) and that has been proven.

I am not saying this from experience, i am saying this from research.

Yeah Jen, sure you know all that and really have no experience with pot. Just kidding, anyway, I know it's kinda funny the scientists keep trying to find the bad things the Feds want so bad to find, but they just keep finding benefits! I see it getting legalized in the not to distant future.

Hi Jery;

Excellent article and I could not agree more. The addiction mention by one person above, is the addiction to the feeling obtained from smoking weed, and not the weed itself. Cigarettes and alcohol kill us, yet we are permitted to committ suicide at will, in this manner. The same cannot be said for being taken off life support, even if it is requested...without huge interference and upset to one's family.

There are absolutley no long term negative health problems known to be associated with smoking grass, the problem is, nobody is paying taxes on it. Once the government figures out how to get their take, it will come to pass.

Great article, thanks so much.

Regards,

Kez

Yeah, Kez I agree. I think marijuana legalization would go a long way in helping balance the budget! LOL
